Megumi Tanaka (they/them) is a designer and educator who has been serving loose leaf tea since 2009. Before transitioning to design, they sold tea at Song Tea & Ceramics, Red Blossom Tea Co., and Lupicia Fresh Tea. With rigorous training from these merchants as well as personal trips to tea farms, they have knowledge on tea from Japan, China, India, and Taiwan.
This tea tasting is a reimagining of educational sessions performed multiple times a day for years in San Francisco. We’ll taste a flight of three high end loose leaf teas while learning about tea history, geography, harvesting methods, and how to develop your palate. We’ll drink small cups brewed in a gaiwan to experience how successive re-steeping changes flavor profile.
Frequently asked questions about caffeine content, popular varieties, and different ways of drinking tea will all be answered. Seats are intentionally limited to 6 per session to encourage connection between guests and personalized advice on how to incorporate tea drinking into your life.
